Sujay Rao Mandavilli (born 18 November 1969) is an Indian anthropologist, researcher, post-colonial theorist, and information technology professional. He is best known as the founder and director of the Institute for the Study of the Globalisation of Science (ISGOS), an initiative registered under the Globalisation of Science Trust. His academic work explores subjects such as the globalization of science, historiography, sociology of science, identity theory, and reforms in modern educational systems.
Mandavilli has written extensively in these areas, producing more than 150 research papers and over 50 books, several of which have been republished through digital academic platforms including SSRN and other research repositories.
Early life and background
Sujay Rao Mandavilli was born in Coimbatore, in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. He spent much of his early childhood in Coimbatore and later in Chennai. During 1978–79, he also lived briefly in West Germany, where he attended a German-medium school.
He completed his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya and later studied at Vanavani Matriculation Higher Secondary School located within the campus of IIT Madras in Chennai. He earned a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree in 1990.
Education
Mandavilli completed a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Anthropology from Indira Gandhi National Open University in 2020, specializing in ethnography and environmental ethnography. He also holds postgraduate and undergraduate qualifications in commerce and business administration, including M.Com and PGDBA degrees.
Additionally, he completed the CA Inter stage of the Chartered Accountancy program from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Over the course of his career he has obtained several professional certifications such as ISO 27001 Lead Auditor, Six Sigma Master Black Belt, ITIL, CCNF, CEH, and PIMS.
Professional career
Mandavilli began his professional journey in the fields of auditing and accountancy after completing his Chartered Accountancy articleship. In 1998 he transitioned into the information technology sector, where he worked in software development and project management roles.
His career included assignments in several international locations including Bhutan and parts of Southeast Asia. Between 2005 and 2011 he served at IBM as Business Controls Head for the India GBS-GD division.
Following his tenure at IBM, he worked as an independent consultant specializing in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC), providing advisory services to corporate organizations in India and internationally.

Mandavilli has been actively engaged in independent research since the mid-2000s. His early work examined questions related to the Aryan debate, Indo-European studies, and historical methodology. Over time, his research expanded into multiple interdisciplinary areas including:
